The Overwatch 2 developer update brings new details and the release of heroes, mythical skins and game updates.
In the latest Overwatch2 developer update, those responsible address important changes to the heroes, the new methods of unlocking mythical hero skins, and the gameplay updates for the upcoming seasons.
Publishing Heroes
Starting with Season 10, all heroes will be automatically unlocked when they are released. All existing heroes will then be available to all players. Heroes no longer need to be unlocked via the Battle Pass to be playable in all game modes.
However, new players will still need to complete the first-time player experience to unlock the heroes while learning all the ropes. As soon as the heroes from the hero selection of the first Overwatch have been unlocked, all heroes from Overwatch 2 will also be available.
Blizzard said: “Last year at BlizzCon, we gave a sneak peek of our 40th hero character, highlighting Venture's unique gameplay mechanics and sheer spirit of adventure. We’re excited to announce that all players will have direct access to Venture when Venture officially joins Overwatch 2’s Hero Selection in Season 10.”
Changes to Mythic Skins
Season 10 brings changes to how you earn, upgrade, and unlock Mythic skins through the new Mythic Shop.
Using the Mythic Shop, you can gradually unlock past and current seasonal Mythic skins as you progress through the Premium Battle Pass. You can decide for yourself how much you want to invest in the respective mythical skins. So, for example, if you don't want to have all the colors or model variations of a skin, you can simply redirect the progress to other mythical skins.
Older Mythic Skins will also be available in the Mythic Shop, giving you a chance to get your favorite Mythic Skins. Seasonal Mythic Hero Skins will be available in the Shop two seasons after their release. So at the start of Season 10, these are mythical skins from Seasons 1 to 7.
More information about the Mythic Shop and additional changes to the Premium Battle Pass will be shared leading up to Season 10.
Challenges and Coins
Starting with Season 10, you will earn coins by following the free and premium path of the Battle Pass, making them easier to obtain. Additionally, the amount of coins you can receive for free per season increases from 540 to 600.
Weekly Challenges are becoming more flexible to suit your play style and now award Battle Pass XP.
More maps to explore
The brand new Clash game mode, introduced at BlizzCon 2023, will debut this year along with two new maps.
