It seems that the reports are destined to multiply. The DDay website reports it: several TIM users are apparently receiving an SMS with which the mobile operator invites them to change smartphones. According to what was reported, the message would not only have arrived on actually obsolete devices, but also on phones that were still perfectly functional or even new.
TIM invites you to change your smartphone. The text of the strange SMS
“Dear Customer, we understand that you are using an obsolete smartphone that no longer receives security and operating system updates. We have reserved an exclusive promo for you to replace it with a new smartphone. Go to https://on.tim.it/sostruisci-smartphone or in the nearest TIM store https://on.tim.it/trovanegozio you will find a consultant at your disposal. Offer subject to restrictions and conditions, subject to approval by the finance company”.
It is the wording “now obsolete smartphone that no longer receives security and operating system updates” that raises more than one eyebrow. The message, in fact, would also have arrived on recent devices still covered by support. In the event that the message was received by a less technologically literate person, one must hope for the correctness of the operators in the shop. However, the case remains thorny as the message could mislead less experienced users.
Speaking of telephony. One of TIM's competitors is about to disappear. We are referring to Vodafone Italia, whose brand was acquired by Suisscom.
