WhatsApp allows you to post videos up to 30 seconds long to your status, and people have been asking the platform to increase the limit. Well, the company listened and is increasing the limit of videos you can post.
WhatsApp: video duration in the state will increase!
According to new information from WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (version 2.24.7.6) allows you to post videos of up to 60 seconds or one minute long in your status. The publication says that the company is launching the functionality for a limited number of users and that it will be necessary to have the latest version of the application not only to publish longer videos, but also to watch videos longer than 30 seconds.
Until now, people had to post multiple status updates to share a video longer than 30 seconds. With the latest change, if the video you want to share is one minute or less long, you can share it in a single status update. At the moment, there is no information on when WhatsApp will start releasing the latest update for the stable version of the application. This is expected to happen after exhaustively testing the functionality, which could take a few weeks.
But there is another news
WhatsApp launched voice message transcription in May 2023, but it was only available to users on iOS. However, it has been almost a year since then, but it looks like WhatsApp may finally bring the function to Android soon.
In an analysis of the WhatsApp beta version 2.24.7.7 APK, the TheSpAndroid team discovered sequences of code that suggest that a new function is in development for the Android version of the application. Strings refer to end-to-end encrypted transcripts. Specifically, code sequences include:
To activate transcriptions, 150 MB of new data will be downloaded from the application. Enable Read before listening with transcripts “WhatsApp uses your device's speech recognition to provide end-to-end encrypted transcripts. Learn more” Turn on transcripts
Apparently, before the feature can be activated, users will first have to download 150 MB of data. The functionality will then depend on the device's speech recognition software to work. You'll likely be able to find the feature under Chats when you go to Settings.
Although the code strings were there, it was not possible to use the functionality. It is possible that it is not yet activated, which suggests that it is still in the early stages of development.
However, it is not known when WhatsApp is planning to launch voice message transcription for Android. But it's important to keep in mind that, as with any APK teardown, there's no guarantee this feature will be released publicly.
