Hurting the name of Apex Legends is what a hacker managed to do at the North American Finals of their official tournament some time ago. How come? This tournament, which was supposed to be the best presentation of Apex Legends' situation, actually ended up being a new source of worry, considering that the hacker succeeded in allowing several pro gamers to access cheats without their consent. There are many questions regarding this very unfortunate situation, but at least the mystery of who is responsible has finally been answered. This action was carried out by a hacker named Destroyer2009.
In his latest interview with Tech Crunch, Destroyer2009 admitted that his actions were carried out for two main motivations: having fun and “forcing” Respawn to fix the security holes he exploited for this action. He refused to provide much detail about the method he used considering that there is a chance that Respawn still hasn't closed the gap. He also refused to report this exploit directly to Respawn or EA because the two companies, he said, did not offer a bug bounty program at all.
Apex Legends tournament hacker – Destroyer2009 admits he just wants to have fun.
Destroyer2009 also calmed the masses and emphasized that the hacking he carried out was only limited to the scope of Apex Legends. He didn't access the server, he didn't touch anything outside of Apex's game processing, and he certainly didn't hack the two “victim” computers: Geburten and ImperialHal directly. So, why are these two players he is targeting? He admitted that they were chosen because they were known as good players, so this case deserved more attention.
Neither Respawn nor EA themselves have said whether they have closed the hole used by Destroyer2009, whatever it is. What do you think of Destroyer 2009's actions?
