It was difficult to foresee the move that Giancarlo Esposito just made. The legendary actor of the Breaking Bad franchise, and who we have also been able to see in the field of video games such as Far Cry 6, has announced the arrival of his first graphic novel.
The Venetian is the title given to the work published by Gallery 13 and which has its direct participation. Matt Wheeler takes the role of screenwriter, while all the visual art is done by Jay Martin to tell a story that takes us to the underworld of a city as emblematic as Venice.
“I am excited to be part of this deeply dynamic project, The Venetian. A graphic novel full of action and characters. “It's an unusual original story that exemplifies my rich Afro-Italian heritage,” Esposito says of the project.
This will be Wheeler's first leap into the field of ink, since his role has been as showrunner of series such as Hawaii 5.0. “I am excited to realize a lifelong dream of creating a graphic novel. And the fact of being able to build this character and world from scratch with one of the iconic actors of our time,” says the person in charge. For now, we only have a vignette that you can see just below.
For his part, Martin has already shaped Lost Boyhis first graphic novel that was published in 2023 under the Dark Horse Comics imprint. “A modern noir set in the underworld of Venice, with Giancarlo's protagonist at the center. It is what every artist dreams of capturing on a page,” celebrates Martin.
