Filming of Sandokan will begin in Calabria at the end of April in the industrial area of Lamezia Terme, where construction has begun on the English colony of Labuan which will serve as the setting for some episodes. Adapted from the historical saga written by Emilio Salgari, the series produced by Lux Vide will see Can Yaman replace Kabir Bedi in the role of the legendary Tiger of Malaysia.
Can Yaman's announcement came via Instagram: “You've waited a long time, but we can finally announce that filming for Sandokan will begin at the end of April! Can Yaman will be the protagonist of the international event series, produced by Lux Vide in collaboration with Rai Fiction, adaptation of the historic saga written by Emilio Salgari. The evocative Calabria – thanks to the support of the Film Commission and the Calabria Region – will host an important part of the filming, in particular in the industrial area of Lamezia Terme, where the construction of the English colony of Labuan has begun”.
Luca Bernabei, CEO of Lux Vide, commented on the start of filming of the series in Calabria: “Sandokan is a highly entertaining project that will make viewers dream by taking them to distant and uncontaminated worlds. The series went through a long development process that allowed us to adapt the iconic saga into an international TV series with a highly contemporary approach.”
“Sandokan is back! The joy of the announcement of the start of filming is combined with that of the return of an extraordinary title in the history of Rai in a totally renewed version. A great event that will illuminate the next season of public service” – the words of Maria Pia Ammirati, director of Rai Fiction.
In Sandokan the Turkish actor will be accompanied by Luca Argentero who will play the role of the faithful Yanez. And what do you think of the series? Let us know, as always, below in the comments.
