Threads continues to test features successively to become a more effective platform. The latest test involves a feature already detected earlier this month. The ability to slide your finger over a post to tell the algorithm that you liked it.
Threads: you can now swipe to like a post
Although we already knew this was underway, as it was already working for some users who spotted it a few weeks ago, the test is now official, as it was formally announced by the usual parties: Mark Zuckerburg, Adam Mosseri (Director from Instagram) and the official Threads account.
At the moment, it is still a very limited version and only available to a selected group of users. However, as Mosseri explained, the purpose of this feature is to give users more control over their Threads experience.
Swiping right on a post means you “like” it. Swiping left will show the Threads algorithm that it's not something the person is interested in. In other words, this is a way for us to tell Threads what's relevant to us, what we want to see more of on the “For You” page, and what we want to see less of. So some users commented that this reminds them of third-party Twitter applications from the past, such as “Tweetbot” or “Twitterrific”.
When testing actually began at the beginning of the month, the function appeared to be limited to iOS only. It is not known whether, at this stage, it has also been opened to Android users. Since this feature is only available to a small subset of users, and we do not yet have the feature available, we cannot confirm.
However, this is just one of the functions coming soon to the social network that belongs to Instagram and as such we will soon have lots of new features.
