There is no point in expecting news on the project in the next few years.
Riot Games Company revised development course for its upcoming MMO set in the League of Legends universe, which the company first announced in 2020. Production of the game began again due to the fact that the internal team was not satisfied with the initial result.
Riot Games co-founder Mark Merrill shared that the relaunch was motivated by a desire to move away from the traditional vision of MMOs that already exist in the market. The company believes that it is important not only to design the game in the guise of League of Legends, but also to fundamentally update the genre itself, reaching new heights and meeting the high expectations of fans.
As part of its efforts to realize this new vision, Riot has tapped Fabrice Condominas, known for his work on Mass Effect 3's multiplayer and Mass Effect: Andromeda gameplay, to serve as executive producer. He will join the current team, where Vijay Thakkar, the previous executive producer, will continue to put his efforts into the project, moving into the role of technical director.
As a result of this relaunch, as stated by Mark Merrill, we can expect no news about MMOs from Riot for several years. However, such silence should be interpreted as a positive signal of “tireless and serious work on the game.”
Meanwhile, Riot Games is actively working on other projects, including the imminent release of the fighting game 2XKO and the preparation of the second season of the popular series Arcane, scheduled for this November.
