Last year, Larian Studios was able to produce a real box office hit with Baldur's Gate 3. Together with Starfield they dominated the gaming headlines of the summer, although criticism of the Bethesda title has now become significantly louder. The most recent Baldur's Gate 3, however, remains popular. Accordingly, the question of the future of the brand naturally arises. Neither Microsoft nor the studio itself had expected the huge success of the third part. So will we see a fourth part of the popular role-playing game series from Larian sooner or later? Well, the CEO's recent statements don't give us much hope.
Baldur's Gate 3 boss reveals: “It's not our thing”
At the Game Developers Conference, Swen Vincke didn't just talk about Baldur's Gate 3, which was named Game of the Year, or the waves of layoffs in the video game industry. The future of Larian Studios also came up during his appearance.
“We are a company of big ideas. We are not a company that produces DLCs or expansions. We actually tried that a few times. It always failed. It's not our thing. Life is too short. Our ambitions are very high large.”
The result? At GDC, Vincke said what many fans probably didn't want to hear. “Just like with Gustav, Baldur's Gate will always have a place in my heart. We will always be proud of it, but we will not continue with it. We will not make expansions like everyone expects from us. We will not make Baldur's Gate 4 , (although) everyone expects this from us.”
PC Gamer emphasizes that Vincke spoke about the team's next project back in January. This is not a D&D project, as the CEO himself notes on stage. What exactly awaits us next from the talented group remains a secret for now.

Aside from the numerous milestones of the role-playing game, we recently took up the latest hotfix on our website. Also worth mentioning is the Deluxe Edition of the title, which comes onto the market with 4 discs. In February we also discussed the “Sex Update” for Baldur's Gate 3.
