2023 deserves to be considered one of the best years for gaming, at least for gamers. While it continues to be filled with bad news centered around the word developer and publisher “reconstruction” followed by more layoffs and studio closures, it's hard to deny that there were a lot of great games last year. So much so that the competition to win the Game of the Year award is heating up. So, of all the publishers involved in releasing games, who deserves to be considered the best? Metacritic has the data!
Metacritic finally released information on the performance list of publishers in the super busy year – 2023 and determined who deserves to be named the best among the best. To be included in this list, publishers must release at least 5 games on various platforms. The score is then calculated based on 4 different factors: the average metascore value of games released in 2023, the % of games that have been scored with positive reviews, the % of games that have been scored with bad reviews, and the number of “cool” titles (those that managed to get a score of 90 with at least 7 reviews).
Capcom is the best gamer publisher in 2023 according to Metacritic.
From this list, Capcom managed to top the list and therefore has the right to hold the title as game publisher in 2023 according to Metacritic. They shifted Sony's position from last year thanks to the success of releases such as Resident Evil 4 Remake, Street Fighter 6, and also Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, all of which managed to achieve high scores on Metacritic. Of all Capcom's titles in 2023, only Exoprimal has a disappointing score.
