With “Still Wakes the Deep,” the developers of The Chinese Room, who specialize in narrative gaming experiences, announced their latest project last summer. Thanks to a new trailer, we now know when the horror adventure will be released.
Last year, Dear Esther creators at The Chinese Room used the Summer Game Fest to introduce us to a new horror title, Still Wakes the Deep.
After the project became a bit quiet recently, The Chinese Room returned shortly before the start of the weekend with a sign of life in the form of a new trailer. This doesn't just give us fresh impressions from The Chinese Room's scary new project.
At the same time, the British studio confirmed the final release date of “Still Wakes the Deep” with the trailer in question. The narrative horror experience is said to be releasing on June 18, 2024.
The new first-person horror from the creators of Amnesia
As the developers promised in the official announcement, “Still Wakes the Deep” offers us a first-person horror adventure that thrives primarily on its exciting story and dense atmosphere. We take on the role of worker Caz McLeary, who makes a living on an offshore oil platform.
Through a violent storm, a dangerous environment and the dark, ice-cold waters of the North Sea, he fights for his survival after all lines of communication on land are cut off. At the same time, workers face a dark presence. This plagued the oil platform and attempted to kill people.
“Look for your crew and help them survive if you can. Run, climb and swim through the flooded corridors and storm-tossed exterior decks. Face a fearsome, implacable enemy. And pray that you will see your family again one day,” the developers say.
Professional speakers voice the characters
As in various other games from The Chinese Room, you will have to do without weapons in “Still Wakes the Deep”. Instead, the protagonist simply relies on his wits and determination to save himself and his colleagues from the dark danger.
To create a particularly dense atmosphere, the developers not only resorted to claustrophobic and flooded corridors and storm-tossed decks. At the same time, the various characters were voiced by professional dubbing actors.
“Still Wakes the Deep” is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
