There is something deceptive in adventures set in the ocean. We have experienced it, very calmly, in titles like Endless Ocean or Subnautica, but also in terms of horror with games of the caliber of BioShock or SOMA.
On this occasion, it will be time to activate the five senses before the arrival of Still Wakes the Deep, an enigmatic first-person adventure (not a bodycam) that is inspired by classics like The Thing.
It was announced at the Xbox Showcase last summer, and from the first moment it gave us good feelings. It is a development of the British study The Chinese Room (Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs).
This title places us on a huge oil platform, located on the coast of Scotland, where strange things begin to happen. Furthermore, everything indicates that the ocean itself is raging beneath our feet.
In it Future Games Show Spring Showcase 2024 Last night, its creators revealed a new trailer (which you can watch above), as well as the release date for Still Wakes the Deep.
The good news is that, in addition, This horror game with Unreal Engine 5 can be enjoyed on Xbox Game Pass (consoles, PC and cloud).
Alone in the immensity of a furious sea
Still Wakes the Deep has revealed its cards for the coming months. With a new trailer, which delves into its horrors with Unreal Engine 5has already confirmed its release date.
The work of The Chinese Room and Secret Mode will be released for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5 on June 18 of this yearalso on Microsoft's Game Pass service.
In the new trailer, we are shown the gloomy Beira D oil platform, which will be the cradle of terror for those who enter this adventure. Something has sneaked into the underwater platform, and we will have to find out.
Below you can read a synopsis of the game:
''You are an offshore oil platform worker fighting for your life through a fierce storm, a dangerous environment and the dark, icy waters of the North Sea. All lines of communication have been cut. All exits have disappeared. All that remains is to face the unknowable horror that has come aboard.''
Although we don't know much more, it seems that Still Wakes the Deep will bet on Lovecraftian science fiction, with a fearsome cosmic terror that threatens our survival in Beira D.
Its creators have also revealed the films that have inspired the development, from The Thing to The Devil's Seed, passing through other iconic works from the 60s and 70s.
Still Wakes the Deep is postulated as one of the most interesting horror games of the year, which we can enjoy (or suffer, depending on how you look at it) starting June 18 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass.
