After seven years of effort.
According to Bloomberg, about seven years ago, Apple came up with the idea of creating an alternative to OLED displays using microLED technology, which provides clearer color reproduction and reduces power consumption, and also makes the display thinner. Initially, it was planned that microLED displays of our own design would appear in the Apple Watch by the beginning of 2020, but the deadlines were constantly shifted, eventually reaching 2025. A small enterprise was even built in California, which was supposed to begin producing microLED displays for Apple's needs. In the future, such displays were supposed to displace OLED from Apple smartphones, tablets and laptops.

At the current stage, Apple has decided that attempts to master the production of such displays independently in mass quantities will be fruitless not only due to the high level of costs, but also due to the presence of some technical difficulties. Specialists in the US and Asia who were involved in this initiative will either find work in other Apple divisions or will be forced to leave the company. Apple is not renouncing the use of microLED in general, but it does not intend to use these displays in Watch watches, and will not develop such technologies on its own. If one of the partners offers her displays of this type that are worthy of execution, she will gladly take advantage of such an offer.
