In November, Google introduced a new homepage for Google Drive. Now this storage system is getting an “expanded search bar and improved capabilities”. So let's look at the new feature that Google Drive has just received.
Google Drive has just received another new feature! Have you seen?
The search field no longer appears at the top, next to the logo. Moved to the inner container/content view, where there is even a “Welcome to Drive” notice. This new position for the bar applies only to this page and remains in the usual location on all others.
You then have filters – Type, People, Modified and Location – that take you immediately to the search results. Google Drive has improved the Home page to make it “easier and faster to find your most important files”.
This change definitely helps distinguish the default home page, which luckily you can change back to My Drive in Settings.
The new home search bar is now rolling out to Google Drive and will be available to Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and personal Google accounts.
However, there is another new feature
Once it is available, you will be invited to activate it. Please note that to activate or deactivate you will have to use the gear icon in the top right corner > Settings > General > Appearance. Does not automatically follow the device theme.
However, this new feature joins other preferences for the Home page (Home page or My unit) and Density (Comfortable, Cozy, Compact).
The dark theme is quite simple and only applies to file view. Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc. remain unchanged. The background (sidebar, search bar, etc.) is lighter and slightly gray, while the inner container is darker/black.
Google Keep and Chat also offer dark themes, while Gmail offers something similar but doesn't apply to the actual content of an email. In addition to Workspace, there is Google Search and YouTube. Compared to mobile devices, the availability of night themes is quite limited.
