Google continues to develop its own search system, which previously received the function of displaying a summary of answers to an entered query and links to sources selected using generative AI. Previously, to use this innovation, you had to activate the Search Generative Experience (SGE) option on the Search Labs platform. Now, AI-selected answers have begun to appear in the search results of all search engine users in the United States.
According to the source, Google has activated the AI search feature for “a small percentage of search traffic in the United States,” and therefore users in the country may see a section generated by the neural network even if they have not activated the corresponding option.
To recap, Google unveiled the SGE feature at its annual I/O conference last May, shortly after making its Bard chatbot, now called Gemini, available. By November last year, the feature had been deployed in 120 countries and could handle queries in multiple languages, but was still disabled by default.
At this stage, Google will show users an AI-generated block when processing complex queries or in cases where the search engine believes that it would be useful for the user to obtain information on a topic of interest from several sources. It is also noted that the block generated by the neural network will be displayed only in cases where the algorithm determines that the result of the AI’s work provides better information than regular search results. Google is likely testing the AI search feature to get more feedback from users in order to further integrate neural networks into its search engine.
