Late last year, Rockstar officially announced Grand Theft Auto VI. The announcement was accompanied by a debut trailer, and the release date was set at 2025. Information has emerged that the game may be delayed and released in 2026.
Kotaku, citing its sources at Rockstar, reports that production of Grand Theft Auto VI is not proceeding at the pace planned. As a result, the journalists write, “it is becoming increasingly likely that the game will not be released until the end of 2025 or will be postponed to 2026.” Already, according to their information, the production schedule is behind plans.
Journalists also note that some developers are categorically against returning to the office. Let's remember that it was previously reported that Rockstar required all remote employees to return to work in the office from April 2024 in order to reduce the risk of information leaks about Grand Theft Auto VI and speed up the development process. The employees themselves refuse this idea, fearing overtime.
Despite falling behind production schedules, Rockstar is still planning to release the game in the spring of 2025, as indicated by Kotaku. But this looks less and less realistic according to their sources. A release in the fall of 2025 is more likely, and 2026 could be considered as a “back-up plan.”
At the same time, Kotaku expects that in the next trailer Rockstar will not provide any information about the change in release dates, since they “historically” announce the final decision on the delay in the last minutes.
