With the latest AMD software: Adrenalin Edition 24.3.1, which was released for download on March 20th, the manufacturer not only corrects the incorrect VRAM limits of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE, but also enables the graphics memory of this graphics card to be overclocked for the first time. The website TechPowerUp has now carried out tests and found that overclocking the GDDR6 graphics memory can result in up to 15 percent more performance. The comparisons were 2,250, 2,315 and 2,615 MHz.
Radeon RX 7900 GRE mit VRAM-OC im Benchmark
The PowerColor Hellhound Radeon RX 7900 GRE was used for the test, which, with a price of 589 euros, is currently one of the cheapest custom designs based on the Radeon RX 7900 GRE and, like all models of the type, comes standard with 2,250 MHz (effectively 18 Gbps) memory clock works. Due to a bug that has now been fixed with AMD's latest graphics driver, all graphics cards in the series could previously run at a maximum of 2,315 MHz on GDDR6. TechPowerUp's comparison test now included up to 2,615 MHz.

The three clock levels on the GDDR6 graphics memory were compared in the well-known benchmark suite 3DMark Time Spy Extreme, which resulted in the following results.
Source: TechPowerUp While the Radeon RX 7900 GRE with 18.5 Gbps has already beaten the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti and increased by more than 8 percent, with 21 Gbps it even comes threateningly close to a Radeon RX 7900 XT. The maximum performance increase was around 15 percent just from overclocking the graphics memory. In this discipline, almost all graphics cards still have untapped potential, depending on the quality of the memory chips, since VRAM-OC is not offered ex works.
Adrenalin Edition 24.3.1 mandatory
In order to achieve such or similar results with regard to VRAM overclocking on the Radeon RX 7900 GRE, Adrenalin Edition 24.3.1 is mandatory because only with this graphics driver were the incorrect maximum memory limits of the graphics card fixed, as are the official release notes the developers from AMD revealed.
