The video game market has exceeded all expectations in 2023. As usual, the Union of Leisure Software Publishers has listed the best-selling games for all consoles. Despite an unsurprising podium, the rest may surprise you!
In 2023, the video game market won a record sum of 6.1 billion euros. Like every year, the Union of Leisure Software Publishers (SELL) shares the top 20 best-selling video games in France for all consoles. This list allows, to a certain extent, to highlight the titles that marked the past year, as well as the surprises that captivated the attention of players.

A feeling of déjà vu
Once again, Electronic Arts' flagship game, EA Sports FC 24 (formerly FIFA), dominates the rankings with more than 1,477,000 copies sold. However, it is closely followed by Hogwart Legacy and its 1,147,000 sales and The Legends of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom which is approaching one million. It's worth pointing out that these figures include both physical and digital sales, with the exception of Nintendo's data, which only provides physical sales. Additionally, the absence of Baldur's Gate 3 is surprising. In reality, Larian, the studio behind GOTY 2023, does not disclose its figures. Furthermore, it is fascinating to see that the Japanese giant manages to maintain the popularity of its titles: since 2021, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons have persisted in the top 20, demonstrating the consistency of their appeal among players. Same observation for GTA 5 with 400,000 sales 10 after its release!

PlayStation and Nintendo dominate! Microsoft fails to establish itself
It is striking to note the absence of Xbox exclusives in the top 20, which can be explained by the predominance of Game Pass in their strategy. Furthermore, despite the disappointment of players, Diablo 4 managed to position itself in 15th position, recording only 168,539 sales in France. Finally, it is notable to note the absence of independent games in the top 20, highlighting the difficulties independent developers face in competing with the big names in the industry. However, titles like Sea of Stars or Dredge are considered by the community on X, at the height of this ranking.
