Yoshi-P wants to bring Square Enix's JRPG to ''more platforms'', following the launch of The Rising Tide DLC in April. Remember that a port for PC is also in development.
The journey of Final Fantasy XVI is coming to an end. The sixteenth installment of the JRPG saga was released in June of last year, as a brand new PlayStation 5 exclusive, obtaining good ratings despite the great Western influence in its universe.
Months later, in December, Square Enix released the first of the two promised DLC. Echoes of the Fallen was a good DLC for Clive's adventure, although quite short.
The Final Fantasy 16 arc will close with The Rising Tidesecond expansion that will also include an epilogue for the history of this delivery.
The Rising Tide will arrive on PS Store on April 18with a broader development than Echoes of the Fallen, which you can see in the new trailer released at PAX East 2024.
The last we know is that Final Fantasy 16 will also come out on PC, following the path set by the two remakes (so far) of Final Fantasy VII. At the moment, the port does not have a date.
And now? It's precisely what they talk about Naoki Yoshida (productor) y Takeo Kujiraoka (DLC director)in an interview with Noisy Pixel.
Final Fantasy 16 would no longer be exclusive to PS5
Unlike the Final Fantasy VII trilogy orchestrated by Tetsuya Nomura, which is exclusive to PlayStation 5 on consoles, it seems that Final Fantasy XVI it will cease to be.
Final Fantasy 16's exclusivity on PS5 was six months, meaning the game is eligible to launch on other consoles. There is nothing official at the moment, but Yoshi-P has dropped a couple of things.
In the aforementioned interview, Yoshida is asked about the end of Final Fantasy XVI, which with The Rising Tide and the epilogue I would have nothing more to offer, at least on a plot level..
This was Yoshi-P's response:
''It's not over, in the sense that we have the PC version. Once the PC version is released, we are thinking of moving to other platforms as well. However, that's not really talking about the story; “It's more about moving the game to different platforms.”
Unless there is a drastic twist, it is clear that Yoshi-P is talking about port Final Fantasy XVI to other consolesonce the PC port is available (there is talk of the second half of 2024).
This opens the door to a possible launch on Xbox Series X|S (as happens with the MMO Final Fantasy 14), and even on other consoles… like the successor to Nintendo Switch.
It seems impossible that a Switch could move Final Fantasy XVI, but, on the other hand, Nintendo's new console could be powerful enough. What if Yoshi-P talks about a PS4 release? Everything is possible…
Final Fantasy XVI, for now, is a PS5 exclusive game. You can enjoy the full experience (base game and its two DLCs) starting April 18, when The Rising Tide and the story epilogue are available to purchase in digital format.
