One of the most highly acclaimed releases of last year was Final Fantasy XVI. It was released only on Playstation 5, but it is no secret that the project is also planned for release on PC. Square Enix is currently working on the second DLC for Final Fantasy XVI, which is called The Rising Tide.
Journalists at Pax East 2024 asked Naoki Yoshida, producer of the Final Fantasy series, if he would be sad to say goodbye to Final Fantasy XVI after the release of the DLC. He stated that work on the project will not end there, since there is still a version for PC and “other platforms”:
This (DLC release) is not the end in the sense that we still have a PC version in development. Once the PC version is released, we are thinking about moving to other platforms. But you're right, this is no longer about the story in the game, it's more about moving the project to different platforms. Now there is a feeling that the project is still ongoing, we are not leaving it yet. But I'm pretty sure that once everything is released and we move on to the next project, there will come a point where it kind of hits us, “Oh, is it really over?”
Let's remember that earlier this year, Final Fantasy franchise producer Yoshinori Kitase talked about why Final Fantasy VII is important as a Playstation exclusive.
