After being announced with a short teaser a few months ago, we can finally take a look in more detail at Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, a new six-episode mini-series set in the so-called Universal Century of the historic franchise. The events in fact take place during the One Year War, a clash which has seen, since the debut of the anime in 1979, the Principality of Zion and the Earth Federation battle with the use of new and devastating machines: the mobile suites.
We return to the world of Mobile Suit Gundam
The peculiarity of this new television series is that it is made entirely in Unreal Engine 5, the new Epic graphics engine that boasts great malleability and adaptability to different situations. In fact, as you can see from the trailer, a big step forward has been made compared to the first experiment of this type with Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO, with some truly breathtaking and at times photorealistic views.
Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance will narrate the European front of this bloody war and will have as its protagonist the pilot of Zion Zaku II's mobile suit, Iria Sorari, played by Australian actress Celia Massingham through dubbing and motion capture. With the screenplay handled by Gavin Hignight (Tekken: Bloodline and Marvel's Spider-Man among other things) and Naohiro Ogata as executive producer (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury and Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt) we will try to take the viewer through the phases finals of the war, a conflict that has very rarely shown mercy in the various series set in this narrative universe.
The figure of Mecha Designer is interesting, entrusted for the occasion to a veteran like Kimitoshi Yamane who not only knows the franchise very well (Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO) but has given his full contribution in The Skies of Escaflowne and especially in Cowboy Bebop. While, as regards the soundtrack, it will be taken entirely from the videogame world, given that it will be handled by Wilbert Roget II who we recently had the opportunity to listen to in Mortal Kombat 1 and Pacific Drive, while he is working on the OSTs that will be present in the open world Ubisoft Star Wars Outlaws.
It seems like a project that is based on solid foundations but to be able to draw conclusions we will have to wait a little longer: in fact we still don't have a precise release date, leaving us with a generic “2024”.
