Baldur's Gate 3 was last year's top game based on the number of Game of the Year awards it received. The project was highly praised by players and critics, and Larian studio recently revealed that it does not plan to release DLC for the game. There will still be several updates for Baldur's Gate 3, in particular with support for mods on Xbox Series X | S, and then the developers will switch to a new project.
At GDC 2024, Sven Vincke, head of Larian, talked about several ideas that the studio abandoned during the development of Baldur's Gate 3.
Initially, Baldur's Gate 3 wanted to have multiple storytellers (“Dungeon Masters”). The role of one of them was to be played by Matthew Mercer (who is the narrator in the Critical Role series). The developers came to the conclusion that this would be difficult and expensive to implement, which is why they abandoned this idea. Also, in the early concepts of Baldur's Gate 3, the character Astarion was originally a tiefling. Below you can see what it should have looked like.
In addition, at GDC 2024, Larian head Sven Vincke said that the developers of Baldur's Gate 3 had a goal to release “separately from Starfield.” But this task was only partially accomplished – Baldur's Gate 3 was released on PC in early August 2023, and Starfied was released in early September, around the same time as the release of Baldur's Gate on Playstation 5. Let us recall that the game from Larian studios reached Xbox Series X | S only in December.
