Paradox Interactive and Whatboy Games have announced the release of “Nexus 5X” for PC on April 18th. The fast-paced, competitive social strategy title challenges players to become the new galactic emperor in single or multiplayer matches that can be played from start to finish in around an hour. This makes “Nexus 5X” the first 5X game in the world: Explore, Exploit, Expand, Exterminate, Express.
Originally announced as “Stellaris: Nexus”, the title was released in Steam Early Access on December 12, 2023. “Nexus 5X” focuses on the deep strategy, gripping diplomatic drama and epic military engagements typical of the 4X single player scene, and combines these gameplay elements into a short, competitive game format that is perfect for one Game night and allows groups of up to eight players to complete a complete run in just about 60 minutes.
“As a team, we love the core concept of 4X games, but we wanted to evolve it to also capture the chemistry and excitement that comes with a game night with friends. By shortening the playtime to around an hour, we're creating an exciting new possibility for the 4X genre to move into a new field of 'social strategy'.”
Dax Ginn, Studio Director at Whatboy Games
“Nexus 5X was designed in collaboration with our community to appeal to both experienced 4X players and serious gamers who may have never played a 4X game before. Our goal is to make Nexus 5X inviting, without the core of the 4X format. We had so much fun playing Nexus 5X with our dedicated Early Access community and look forward to sharing the experience with new players on April 18th – or in Early Access now.”
