The “Sign1” malware infects WordPress websites, and redirects visitors to scams or bombards them with advertisements, researchers from Sucuri, who discovered the malware, have warned. They urged website owners to update their software and take immediate action to protect their sites and visitors.
The Sign1 malware's tactics make it a significant threat. Malware generates dynamic URLs, making it difficult for security software to identify and block them. In addition, the code itself is obfuscated, which further hinders detection.
Perhaps most concerning is Sign1's ability to target visitors from specific websites, such as popular search engines and social media platforms. This indicates a higher level of sophistication, as it allows attackers to focus on users they believe are more susceptible to fraud.
U the report company Sucuri estimated that more than 39,000 WordPress websites have been infected with the Sign1 malware so far.
