The PlayStation 5 will be four years old at the end of the year, and increasingly detailed rumors indicate that a “Pro” version of the machine could very quickly appear. Many games have been released since the launch of the machine, but do you remember the very first title announced for this console?
Do you remember the PS5 launch line-up? We refresh your memory
Today, the PlayStation 5 can be considered a success having been vsold to more than 50 million units since its launch in November 2020. It is only slightly behind the passage times of the PlayStation 4 while its beginnings were much more difficult. Launched during a year marked by COVID-19, the console was seriously hampered by the shortage of semiconductors. All industries have been affected, and you only had to go to stores in 2021 and 2022 to see that products were in short supply. For a long time, the PS5 was only available in very small quantities, with stock disappearing as quickly as it was put online. The scalpers had a field day, but things have since returned to normal, and PlayStation 5s can be found almost everywhere.
These eventful beginnings almost makes us forget that in November 2020, the PS5 arrived with a relatively small line-up without lacking in quality titles. We found in particular Astro's Playroom, supplied with the console to present the new features of the console and its DualSense controller, but also Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the remake of Demon's Souls, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Destruction Allstars, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Watch Dogs Legion, Hyperscape, The Pathless or even NBA 2K21. But none of these titles was the first game announced for the new generation of Sony consoles. The very first production officially announced on PS5 came to us directly from Gearbox (Borderlands).

The first game announced on PS5 is now less than 15 euros
During the Game Awards 2019, an edition which saw Sekiro Shadows Die Twice be crowned game of the year, the publisher announced a certain Godfall. Developed by Counterplay Games, the title took the form of an intense action-RPG, full of colors, striking textures and “next-gen” lighting. Presented as a “slasher-looter”, Godfall invited us to fight, again and again, in order to obtain more powerful equipment and advance the character. With its universe, its character design, its combat system, its dense bestiary and its cooperative dimension, the title is pleasant to read even if it suffers from an under-exploited universe, a repetitiveness that sets in quickly and a rather wait-and-see AI.
An interesting game, but it was difficult to recommend at full price at the time of its release. If you were planning to play it but forgot about it, know that it is currently at discounted price on PlayStation Store. Against the sum of 14,99 euros, you will get the Challenger Edition on PS5 and PS4. This edition contains the base game but also a whole bunch of in-game bonuses including a Valorplate at maximum level, skill points and many weapons. Updated and rebalanced, Godfall is not what one could call “a forgotten nugget”, but constitutes, today and at this price, an experience that may be worth the detour.
