It's now been more than three years since “Resident Evil Village”, the official eighth part of the popular survival horror series, was released. The desire for a sequel is correspondingly great in the fan community. In fact, we could potentially be in for an announcement that would take the series in a direction previously unknown.
After “Resident Evil 7” changed the perspective to the first-person perspective for the first time in the main series, the next big change could come with part 9. According to a statement from industry insider Dusk Golem, Capcom is currently building the basic structure of “Resident Evil 9” on the open world function of the in-house RE: Engine. This was already used in the creation of “Dragon's Dogma 2”.
It is not yet known when an announcement for “Resident Evil 9” can be expected. But as early as July there were rumors online that the title would be announced at the end of 2024 and released in 2025.
