This week in China, orders for the Xiaomi SU7 electric car will begin; in the company's company stores it is already on display for visitors to study, and Chinese application stores are already offering to download an application to interact with the first car of this brand via a smartphone. The head of the company made it clear that the first Xiaomi electric car will not cost more than $70,000.
At least, as Reuters notes, on Monday, CEO Lei Jun said that Xiaomi SU7 will be “the most attractive, easy-to-use and smartest machine in the price range up to 500,000 yuan.” At the current exchange rate, this is just under $70,000, and for the first time a company representative is openly talking about the price positioning of the new product, although he previously transparently hinted at “premium smartphones” and Porsche or Tesla models as a reference point. At the same time, Lei Jun clearly avoided comparing the Xiaomi SU7 with the cheaper Tesla Model 3, which some sources resorted to.
The technical characteristics of Xiaomi SU7 were described in detail at the end of December. The car will be offered in versions with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, in versions with a power reserve of 668 or 800 km on the CLTC cycle, and the most powerful modification will accelerate to 100 km/h in about 2.78 seconds. The exact price range will become known this Thursday when official sales of the Xiaomi SU7 begin, but numerous Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers can take comfort in the fact that this new player is not yet eager to get involved in price wars in the Chinese market.
