Remedy's ongoing projects include “Condor.” It is a live service game for which new information is available.
Remedy is working on a number of new games, including a project called “Condor”. This is the co-op multiplayer offshoot of the studio behind “Control”.
While the final name is still pending, a new financial report from Remedy revealed more information about “Condor.”
Control-based service game
According to Remedy, “Condor” is the studio’s first step “into service-based games.” An initial development budget of 25 million euros was reserved for production.
Northlight – Remedy's in-house engine, which is used in several projects – serves as the technical basis. Actual production is scheduled to start this year for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
The plot in “Condor” is based on “Control” and once again revolves around the Federal Bureau of Control.
“After the Hiss invasion, the Oldest House is under lock and key: a seething pot of volatile and dangerous supernatural powers. Trapped inside is the last remnant of the Federal Bureau of Control, which must fight back to regain control,” Remedy said about the story.
The developer also points out that “desperate times require desperate measures” and “everyone” is needed.
Together against overwhelming enemies and obstacles
Remedy's previous games have focused on individual characters and small but memorable supporting characters. With “Condor”, however, Remedy is taking a different approach. Instead of the supernatural powers of Control Chief Jesse Faden, players in “Condor” will probably take on unknown and anonymous characters.
“The Control franchise is bigger than one story or one character,” it says. “With Codename Condor we invite players on a journey together into the depths of the Oldest House.”
As the game progresses, players must rely “on their equipment and each other” to clean up the Oldest House – Control's headquarters. At the same time, it is important to prevent everything around them from being turned into an interdimensional mush.
“There they will face overwhelming enemies and obstacles, but if they rely on their equipment and each other, they have a chance of survival,” writes Remedy about the setting.
And players can also adjust to “Control 2”:
Should players fear a free-to-play game?
Service games are often free gaming experiences in their basic version and are financed with microtransactions, battle passes and the like.
But what approach is Remedy taking with “Condor”? According to the company, fans can expect a “service-based fixed-price game” – i.e. not a free-to-play title.
“These are premium games that have a lower initial price but generate a long line of revenue through updates, game expansions and potential microtransactions,” it says.
More on the subject:
Ultimately, Remedy can do whatever the studio wants with “Control.” The Rights to the brand were taken over by 505 Games. “Full ownership of the rights gives us the freedom to choose the best path forward,” the studio said.
This is another project Remake von “Max Payne 1 & 2”, which is also in the production stage. It is financed by Rockstar Games and the budget is on the same level as “Alan Wake 2”.
