Panic at home Panic! The company that produces PlayDate, the innovative hand-cranked console marketed at the beginning of 2022, reports the disappearance of two pallets of consoles with a total value of 400 thousand dollars.
This 'accident' was made known Cabel Sasser: Speaking at GDC 2024, the Panic co-founder explained that he was in the middle of “a real crime drama. We were checking our inventory and realized that PlayDate was running low, so we contacted the shipment and they confirmed this 'empty' to us. Well, the fact is that two entire pallets of PlayDate are missing from our inventory. The FedEx managers told us that they have been delivered, but we have no trace of it“.
The mystery of the PlayDate pallets disappearing into thin air in Las Vegas, Sasser continues, deepened in the days following the discovery of this 'inventory void': the co-founder of Panic reported that “two weeks later, two more pallets were delivered by FedEx to the construction site next door instead of to our shipping warehouse.”
More than a theft, therefore, Sasser suggests that it was a 'logistical error' committed by the company responsible for shipping the two pallets of PlayDate consoles, i.e. FedEx. This was underlined, moreover, by the same 'anonymous' FedEx employees who sent images to Sasser showing the two 'ghost pallets' magically reappearing on a construction site north of Las Vegas, even if the PlayDate consoles from total value of 400 thousand dollars have not yet been recovered.
