As is now tradition, Riot Games gave us the opportunity to play the new Valorant update a few days before its release. We were therefore able to preview Clove, the agent who will join the roster of the free shooter to coincide with the debut of theAct 2 of Episode 8.
The signature of Riot Games
Clove is an agent of Scottish origins which the development team created with obsessive attention to detail, a factor that distinguishes Riot Games when it comes to characterizing a character. This heroine was in fact born from the collaboration between the development team and a group of professional consultants which even boasted a linguist: this refinement made it possible to create a character that was authentic both in character and accent, so as to convey its origins to those who use it. Not only that, the dubbing phase itself took place in a studio in Edinburgh, a choice that allowed the voice actors to immerse themselves in that atmosphere and the developers to glean a few more details from the Scottish setting.
Death is just the beginning
What makes Clove one of the most unique heroes among those in the Valorant roster is undoubtedly his kit. The development team forged this agent with a very specific goal in mind: to provide players of the competitive shooter witha strong alternative to Omen for all those who prefer a more aggressive playing style. And from this point of view, this segment of fans couldn't ask for more, given that Clove pushes players to clash head-on with their opponents, so as to be able to make the most of its potential. Unlike other agents belonging to her class, that of the Strategists, Clove is not at all suited to remaining in the rear and encourages whoever takes control of her to engage the enemy: in the event that the lead exchange goes against her, you will not switch to spectator mode. The agent in fact takes the form of a specterduring which he can perform various actions and contribute to the team's victory, but let's proceed step by step.
The first ability in Clove's kit is called Stratagem and is activated by pressing the E button. Once the skill is activated, a mini-map appears on the screen that the agent can use to position with surgical precision the points in which to generate purple clouds that obstruct the view. The peculiarity of Stratagemma is that not only can it be used normally, but it can also be activated when Clove is in her ghostly form. Some might think that this is an excessively strong skill, but Riot Games thought of everything and, after extensive testing, believed that it was sufficiently balanced for a very simple reason: the creation of visual obstacles is limited to the area adjacent to that of Clove's corpse, so it is not possible to wander around the map to annoy the enemy.
The only agent capable of returning to life
Perfectly in line with the characteristics of the agent arriving with Valorant Episode 8 Act 2 is the ability linked to the C button, i.e. Restorative. This peculiar skill of Clove means that the lifeless bodies of opposing players can be used to take advantage. It is enough to approach the corpse of the target sent to the other world and press the button so that our Scottish agent can absorb its life force: This special action results in a temporary increase in health and speed. Also in this case the developers have thought of an additional mechanic to make everything more balanced, in fact Clove can only absorb enemies that he has eliminated personally or that have been at least damaged by one of his attacks.
The Q key has instead been entrusted Interference, an ability that consists of launching a sort of projectile with special effects. After equipping the skill, Clove can aim at the target and fire to hurl a fragment of essence of immortality: it is a projectile that explodes shortly after impact with a surface or an enemy and deteriorates anyone caught within the radius of the detonation. The icing on the cake is Second chance, Clove's Ultima which is activated by pressing Once the button is pressed, Clove temporarily regains his physical form and, holding a firearm, must eliminate an opponent or score an assist within a few seconds: if successful will come back to life and he will be able to continue playing alongside his teammates, otherwise he will die. As you may have already guessed, it is possible to exploit the benefits of Interference to weaken opponents and make their elimination easier, facilitating their return to the game.
In conclusion, Clove is an agent who has all it takes to revolutionize the meta of Valorant, especially if entrusted to those players who prefer to move around the map alone and want to take some risks to win a point.
