When you search for a place and swipe up, a new Lists option appears in the city you're searching for. This is on the sheet below the image carousel. So you'll find third-party lists of “expert-selected restaurants,” guides to iconic locations, and more.
Google Maps will also directly curate listings “based on places people are interested in or love on Maps right now.” This new feature is now arriving in the United States and Canada.
🔥 Trending list: “updated weekly with places that have recently seen an increase in popularity on Google Maps. It’s ideal for helping you discover the latest hot spots.”
🏆 List of the best: “where you can find the places that the Google Maps community has always loved. Come here to
find an area’s long-time, tried-and-true favorites.”
💎 Gem list: “for places that might be a neighborhood’s best-kept secret. It’s home to great restaurants that still go unnoticed.”
However, in the coming months, Google will highlight “some of the best lists from the Google Maps community”.
However, you now have the ability to manually organize list items by dragging them instead of being limited to “Distance” and “Recently Added”.
In your lists, you can also link to content from your social channels – like your opinion on the delicious meal you ate – to show why it deserves to be on your list. These updates will be released globally on Android and iOS later this month.
Finally, Google is using AI to help identify the dish shown in an image and thus show “useful information based on the menu – such as the price, whether it is popular and even whether it is vegetarian or vegan”.
