Well-known source of insider information OnLeaks, in collaboration with 91Mobiles, published images of a smartphone that will presumably complement Google's flagship line in 2024. The Pixel 9 shown in these renders will have a 6.03-inch display and will launch alongside the 6.1-inch Pixel 9 Pro and 6.5-inch Pixel 9 Pro XL.
According to the leak, the “regular” Pixel 9 uses a curved camera panel, reminiscent of the design language of the Pixel 8 Pro. However, unlike the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL, the Pixel 9 will not receive the triple camera array that has become the hallmark of the Google Pixel Pro series. The image shows a dual camera without a telephoto lens with a periscope, suggesting a standard configuration similar to the current Pixel 8.
According to the source, the Pixel 9 measures 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5 mm with a thickening of up to 12 mm in the camera area. The display size is assumed to be 6.03 inches, which may differ slightly from the actual size due to different approaches to measuring screen diagonal among manufacturers and researchers.
91Mobiles claims that the phone will come in other color options besides the black color shown in the images. It is assumed that the entire Pixel 9 series will receive Qi2 wireless charging with a power of up to 15 W. It is also expected that the smartphone will be built on the Tensor G4 chipset, like the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL. Smartphones should get the Adaptive Touch feature, which has been in development by Google for some time.
The new flagship Pixels are still more than six months away, but Google has other devices that may be released earlier – we can expect the Pixel 8A and Pixel Fold 2 to appear before October, both of which could be announced during the company's presentation in May. And next year, Google’s range of smartphones may be replenished with the Pixel 9A model, which will become the fourth representative in the “ninth pixel” line.
