After rumors reached us yesterday, the next game in the world of Marvel was officially announced today. This is called “Marvel Rivals” and is a competitive multiplayer title with all kinds of well-known superheroes.
After us last night first clues on a new Marvel title, it was officially announced this Wednesday. The project is called “Marvel Rivals” and is seen as a “6 vs. 6” PvP shooter.
According to those responsible at Marvel and NetEase, we can expect a competitive title in which well-known heroes and villains from the Marvel universe join forces to form teams. According to NetEase, the gaming special features of “Marvel Rivals” include the synergies between the characters. Used strategically cleverly, these give you various advantages in battle.
“Unleash the synergy of combined superpowers and invent new tactics that can turn the tide of battle. As Rocket Raccoon, ride Groot's back to take on your enemies as a dangerous duo. As Hulk, unleash gamma energy to charge Iron Man’s armor for massive damage and more,” say the developers.
NetEase promises fast-paced and spectacular action
It goes on to say that with “Marvel Rivals” we are dealing with a fast-paced PvP title that is intended to guarantee long-term excitement with its spectacular action and changing battlefields. According to their own statements, the developers attach great importance to a versatile and strategic combat system. Melee attacks play a particularly important role here.
The story of Marvel Rivals was written specifically for the game and takes you to the year 2099. Here, the clash between the tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart caused countless universes to collide in this timestream entanglement.
“Now superheroes and supervillains from across the multiverse must fight together and against each other. At the same time, different groups are trying to defeat both Dooms before they gain control of these realities. “Familiar faces become new enemies, while former enemies become the greatest allies in Marvel Rivals,” the story reads.
The alpha test starts in May
In today's announcement, NetEase noted that the first alpha test for “Marvel Rivals” will begin in May. The catch: So far, the publisher has only announced the PvP title for the PC. It is currently unclear whether and when the consoles will be supplied.
The fact that an official FAQ states that the developers “may investigate additional platforms at a later date” provides hope among console fans.
To what extent the whole thing points to a possible implementation for the consoles remains to be seen.
