Nintendo of America could be cutting 120 contractor positions ahead of the Switch 2 release, with some members laid off and others hired full-time in an internal restructuring.

According to Kotaku's Ethan Gach, Nintendo of America would be cutting these internal positions as part of a restructuring in its testing department for this successor.

The division between job losses and permanent contracts is not clear yet, but Kotaku makes it clear that its sources speak of a large reduction of the Washington-based testing department.
This leaves Nintendo commenting that it will create “a significant number of new full-time jobs.”
The sources also said the restructuring comes amid a “pause” in said testing department at Nintendo as there are no first-party games for Switch on the horizon.
None of them were aware that there was working on the successor to Nintendo Switchone that a month ago was reported -according to rumors- to be passing at the beginning of 2025.
At VGC they say that a source on this leaves it implicit that the delay was so that Nintendo could prepare a batch of exclusives for the console, although others said that it was to avoid shortages in its manufacturing.

“Nintendo of America (NOA) reorganized its Product Testing functions to drive greater global integration in game development efforts,” said a spokesperson for the studio.
“These changes will also better align NOA with interregional testing procedures and operations,” at which point they talk about these jobs and how they will support them.
“To those associated contractors who are leaving us, we are tremendously grateful for the important contributions you have made to our business.
And we extend our most sincere gratitude to them for their hard work and service to Nintendo,” but the statement from the aforementioned spokesperson neither confirms nor denies anything else.
