The official reveal of the new PlayStation Plus Premium titles for April 2024 is still two weeks away. Despite everything, the first classic has already leaked and will find its way into the PS Plus Premium library next month.
While the official unveiling of the new additions to PlayStation Plus Essential for the month of April takes place this Wednesday, the new titles for PS Plus Extra and Premium are known to be presented on the second Wednesday of each month.
However, thanks to “PSDeals.net”, the first classic has already leaked, which PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will be able to download and play next month at no additional cost. We're talking about “Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2: The Hidden Empire”. The classic was initially released for DOS in November 1995.
Almost a year later, it was implemented for the original PlayStation. You can play this on your PS4 or PS5 from April 16, 2024.
A rail shooter is making a comeback
In terms of play, “Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2: The Hidden Empire” stood out a little from other “Star Wars” games at the time. The title was seen as a classic rail shooter. Digitized film sequences from the “Star Wars” trilogy served as the setting for the action. The developers at LucasArts added additional sequences to the scenes from the films in question that were created specifically for the game.
In “The Hidden Empire” we take on the role of rookie One, who aims to put an end to the empire’s cunning plans. The action begins near the Dreighton Nebula, where the Protatoginst is traveling as part of a rebel scout patrol.
He investigates the disappearance of rebel spaceships near Dreighton. An area where there are always stories about disappearing spaceships.
Arcade gameplay in the world of Star Wars
Since “Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2: The Hidden Empire” is a rail shooter, you can expect classic arcade gameplay in an authentic setting. There are 15 missions in which you take on the fight against the Empire on land, in the air and in space.
Four different levels of difficulty and an atmospheric soundtrack written by composer John Williams round off the classic.
We'll find out on Wednesday, April 10th, which other classics will find their way to the PlayStation Plus Premium service in April 2024. The activation of the extra and premium new additions will take place on Tuesday, April 16th.
