Formally, Intel retired Kaby Lake-G processors several years ago. However, this did not stop the Chinese company Topton from using them in a new motherboard for network devices. The N9 NAS model was spotted on the Aliexpress platform with a price tag of around $289.
The unusual new product is based on the Intel Core i7-8705G processor. This “stone” offers four cores with support for Hyper-Threading and frequencies from 3.1 to 4.1 GHz, as well as Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics with four gigabytes of HBM2 memory on one PCB. According to Intel's plan, such processors were to be used in mini-computers and thin gaming laptops, however, the life cycle of this platform was short-lived.
But let's return to the Topton N9 NAS board itself. It is made in the Mini-ITX format, has two slots for SO-DIMM DDR4 memory modules, M.2 connectors for a solid-state drive and a wireless module, as well as eight 2.5-gigabit network interfaces. Among other things, it is worth noting support for LGA115x CPU coolers, a pair of HDMI video outputs, four USB 3.2 ports (three Type-A and one Type-C) and two 3.5 mm audio jacks. For power you will need an external adapter with a voltage of 12-19 V.
