Are you waiting for the Switch 2 as impatiently as I am? The Switch is a really great console. No wonder Nintendo is so successful with it. After more than seven years, however, it's time for something new, I see it that way and so do many Nintendo fans. But unfortunately we have to be patient for quite a while. That's what tempted me to just mine instead to dust off your favorite Nintendo console of all time and save it to 2024. I was afraid this would be complicated, but the opposite is the case. How I saved my old Nintendo console I'll explain to you here.
My favorite Nintendo console of all time brings back childhood memories
Which Nintendo console is your favorite of all time? The Switch comes in second place for me. The throne belongs to an ancient one, presumably for all time Nintendo console from my childhood, namely the Nintendo 64 (N64).
I'll never forget how I burst into joy on Christmas Eve 1997 as I tore the paper off my big gift and put it in brand new N64 along with the Nintendo cult classic Super Mario 64 came to light.
But over the last few years, my beloved Nintendo 64 has just been gathering dust on the shelf alongside my collection of great N64 game hits. In my modern home theater setup, the old-school Nintendo console was basic out of place.
But then I have it perfect solution found to save my old Nintendo console.

Switch, no thanks: Nobody will take my Nintendo games away from me
I got it last year newly released N64 controller in Nintendo's official online store (My Nintendo Store) Bought, but so far only used on the Switch. The gamepad is absolutely awesome and identical to the original from the 90s. Even the built-in one Vibration function feels exactly the same as the legendary one Rumble Pak. But the Nintendo new edition has a decisive advantage.
Because the N64 controller from the My Nintendo Store has Bluetooth and a battery installed, you can enjoy beloved retro classics from Nintendo wirelessly and very comfortably, as has been the case for ages. But on the Switch I am dependent on the available offer, on licensing topics, on a paid subscription and, in the future, on Nintendo's willingness to continue operating the service after the Switch 2 is released.
At the same time, my old N64 was gathering dust on the shelf and with it a number of classics, some of which are really expensive these days. The big advantage: no one can take the games away from me and I don't need a subscription. And after some research I came across this perfect solution.
This is how I saved my beloved old Nintendo console
Because there are a whole range of them Bluetooth adapters for the Nintendo 64, which makes annoying cable clutter a thing of the past. The capabilities of these devices hardly differ. Most of the time there will be a whole one Range of gamepads supported, including those from PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Wii U, Switch and Co. But such an N64 adapter also comes with that official Nintendo 64 controller from the My Nintendo Store?
The amazing answer is: yes! On Reddit I came across a user who explained that he used this exact controller for the maximum authentic feeling used wirelessly on his N64. He uses the “BlueRetro Wireless Controller Bluetooth Adapter for Nintendo 64” from RetroScaler. You can get it for around 25 to 30 euros in various online shops. No sooner said than done – bought. And I absolutely am happy with my decision.

This is how it continues with my beloved Nintendo 64
Because the N64 adapter actually works flawlessly and works perfect with the N64 controller from the My Nintendo Store. Also the Vibrationsfunktion a la Rumble Pak runs smoothly, several are integrated into the adapter virtual controller packs for storage for games that do not offer this function directly on the cartridge.
After three hours of retro gaming enjoyment with my new setup (Super Smash Bros., The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Donkey Kong 64) without a single problem, I have one straight away second N64 adapter and a second original controller Ordered from the My Nintendo Store. My friends should also be able to enjoy this wonderful experience in multiplayer.
But that wasn't all, because now I'm hooked on the idea, my to modernize old original N64. Next up is a Upscaler with HDMI on the program to optimize the Nintendo 64's image, which is very low-resolution by today's standards, for my 55-inch television. I'm excited to see what happens next and will keep you updated here. Have you already modernized retro consoles? I'd be happy to let you in comments knowledge.
