Zuckerberg seems to like Huang's style, but the Nvidia boss looks a little embarrassed in the photo as he had to try on Mark's sheepskin coat instead.
On Tuesday, the Meta chief uploaded a photo to Instagram of himself and Huang posing in borrowed outfits: Mark smiling happily in the Nvidia boss's famous leather jacket, while Jensen himself seemed confused in Zuckerberg's too-big-for-him shearling coat.
“Jersey swap,” Zuckerberg wrote in the caption, referring to the popular tradition of swapping jerseys in the NFL.
In the comments, Mark added that Huang is “like Taylor Swift – but in the world of technology.”
Jensen Huang's confused look is understandable, as he had to temporarily part with the brand new jacket he wore in public for the first time, replacing his previous one, at the GTC 2024 event about 2 weeks ago. Tom's Hardware editors then discovered that it was a Tom Ford creation priced at $9,000.
Zuckerberg has rarely strayed from his gray T-shirts and hoodies style, but this year marks the second time he's appeared in an unusual look – the previous time he wore traditional Indian attire to the pre-wedding party of an Asian billionaire's son.
The meeting between Zuckerberg and Huang was not unexpected given Meta's ambitions to aggressively expand the AI field. On an earnings call last year, Mark told investors that artificial intelligence would be his company's “biggest area of investment in 2024 for engineering and computing resources.”
In January, Zuckerberg said the company expects to have more than 340,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs by the end of 2024, and that Meta's computing infrastructure will contain “nearly 600,000 H100 compute equivalents when other GPUs are included.” Raymond James analysts estimate that Nvidia sells H100 chips for between $25,000 and $30,000, and on eBay they could fetch more than $40,000—if Meta paid the minimum, it would spend about $9 billion on it, so it's no surprise that Zuckerberg is trying improve relations with Nvidia boss.
It was previously reported that Mark Zuckerberg is “recruiting” Google DeepMind AI researchers through personal emails and offering them positions without interviews.
