Borderlands 4or whatever it will be called, is in development, as confirmed from the official press release announcing the acquisition of Gearbox Interactive by Take-Two. After all, the creation of the game was taken for granted by most, given the success of the previous chapters. Furthermore Randy Pitchfordthe head of Gearbox, had practically revealed it some time ago.
Confirming the development of the new Borderlands was actually David Ismailer, president of 2K, who wrote in the message with which he welcomed Gearbox into the Take-Two family of studios, of which 2K is a subsidiary label. “We're thrilled to welcome Randy Pitchford and his team of passionate, talented developers to 2K and look forward to their many future peer-to-peer projects. We've been thrilled to collaborate with Gearbox on every single installment of the Borderlands series and we're thrilled to be involved now, with the next chapter in the series in development.”

Take-Two now owns Borderlands
Of course they were not provided details regarding the game, but we imagine that it will be another looter shooter and that it will maintain the same winning setting as the previous chapters, also given the film arriving in cinemas. It's difficult to say what stage of development it is at and which platforms we will be able to play it on, given the current development cycles of triple-A companies, but we will keep you updated as new information emerges.
