Judas is BioShock's new daddy game and will be released over ten years after BioShock Infinite, released in 2013. Ken Levine went unbalanced by revealing some details on the gameplay and other small news on the highly anticipated Judas.
Chi è Ghost Story Games?
Ghost Story Games is developing Judas, a first-person sci-fi adventure based on action and mystery. The collective was born from the ashes of Irrational Games, the team to which we owe Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite. At the helm of this group assembled to create games that make emerging narrative their beating heart, is Ken Levine, father of Bioshock, but also the writer and lead designer of the never forgotten System Shock 2.
The protagonist and the plot premises
The eponymous protagonist of Judas is a mysterious figure. We know that at the beginning of the adventure it will literally be “reprinted”, in an incredibly painful process. What does this mean? That before this macabre operation she was dead.Anyway, Judas is a hacker with knowledge of engineering, and is part of humanity's multigenerational journey to a new planet called Proxima Centauri, traveled aboard the ship Mayflower. The goal of this dangerous assignment? Giving a future to the human race, which fled the Earth following a terrible plague of bacterial origin.
The three key figures and the development of the adventure
Central to the development of the adventure will be three key figures, or rather their respective holograms. Played by Troy Baker, Tom is the ship's head of security. Then there's the medical officer, who started calling herself Nefertiti after abandoning her humanity, and finally we find a younger woman called Hope.Icing on the cake? Tom and Nefertiti are husband and wife, and apparently Hope is their adopted daughter. Plus, she's not just the medical officer who's a robot. They all are, and it was Judas who revealed it, causing the crew a serious psychological trauma that put the outcome of the entire mission at risk.
How will the adventure develop? Based on which of the three we will decide to help, ignore or oppose, choices which will produce tangible consequences during progression and clashes. If angry with us, one of the key figures could block a door for us and force us to take up arms against a group of enemies. Another, however, could lend us a hand in times of need or rewards. In any case, it is a very interesting feature, which could clearly differentiate one run from another.
Move around the ship
According to the words of those who have already had the opportunity to explore part of it, the Mayflower ship will definitely not be modest in size. It will be Scotty, our gigantic dog-looking robotic helper, who will lead us from one district to another of this flying city, so as to allow us to complete the tasks accepted by Hope, Tom or Nefertiti.
The combat system and enemies
As regards Judas' combat system, as we were saying Judas is a hacker: for example, he can connect to robotic enemies to make them fight each other or force them to release pools of oil to set on fire with one of his powers. The playful inspirations from Levine's previous works – and therefore from Bioshock – are quite evident. With one hand the protagonist can exploit her elemental abilities, so as to electrify a puddle of water or an enemy directly. With the other one, however, she uses firearms such as rifles, pistols and shotguns.]Regarding the threats we will have to face, from the gameplay published to accompany the press impressions we can already find several. There are crazy anthropomorphic horses armed with riflescooks passionate about dismemberments, and a robotic dentist with bloodshot eyes, with a very unreassuring drill and a relentless pursuer.
