Over 400 people are already working on The Witcher 4.
CD Projekt reported the end of another financial year, which became one of the best in the history of the gaming studio.
Thus, sales of Cyberpunk 2077 and its add-on Phantom Liberty significantly fueled the company’s capital, the total number of copies sold exceeded five million. Sales revenue for 2023 reached 1.2 billion zlotys (approximately 308 million US dollars), and profits stood at 481 million zlotys (approximately 120 million US dollars). The declared financial success exceeds the previous year's figures by 29% and 39%, respectively.
CD Project RED said that the company's accumulated reserves of 1.3 billion zlotys (more than 320 million US dollars) serve as confirmation of the company's stable financial position. This gives her the opportunity to plan future projects on a solid basis and explore new directions, including mobile game development.
The company has also made progress in the development of these same projects. For example, 403 people are already working on Polaris, the next part of The Witcher. It is expected that the main stage of production should start in the second half of 2024. CD Projekt RED is not only expanding staff in existing structures, but also investing in new ones. An office was opened in Boston, where 47 employees are now working on the concept of Orion – the next stage in the development of the Cyberpunk gaming universe.
Projects with the working title Sirius from The Molasses Flood and a remake of the original Witcher from Fool's Theory continue to remain in the concept development stage. This does not detract from CD Projekt's interest in opening new production facilities. We are talking about the secret project Hadar – CD Projekt's first game in its own franchise, on the concept of which 20 people are working. The total circulation of CDPR games has reached 100 million copies, including 25 million for Cyberpunk 2077 and 75 million for The Witcher trilogy. As for Cyberpunk 2077, it will continue to influence market dynamics, since the total income from the franchise since 2020 has already exceeded three billion zlotys (over 750 million US dollars).
An additional direction of the company’s development is associated with the launch of production of a film with live actors based on the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. The project is under the wing of Anonymous Content, known for its high-quality works, which increases interest in the future film. Overall, CD Projekt is demonstrating a commitment to unlocking the potential of its franchises across multiple platforms and formats, promising many new products for fans and investors. This is probably how it will be.
