When it was announced shortly before the release of the Xbox 360 version that Ataris Test Drive Unlimited is also coming to PS2 and PSP, there was skepticism: How is a game designed for next-gen power supposed to work on old or weaker hardware? Six months later, the implementations are there and are actually convincing: The most important components have been retained, especially the impressive Hawaiian island of Oahu has been completely packed onto DVD or UMD.
This means you can also take extensive jaunts around the island on the Sony consoles, which may not seem quite as classy as its big brother, but still conveys the holiday ambience nicely.
While a number of the options have been cut, changes such as the new link between the progression system and the kilometers driven ensure that the implementations are convincing on their own as a fully-fledged and entertaining racing game. Still, it's a shame that everything that was a given on Microsoft's next-gen console Xbox 360 no longer works.
