Rumors that Apple will release iPhone 18 and iPhone Ultra in stages have been circulating for a long time. According to GSMArena, the base model of iPhone 18 will not be released this year. This information comes from a statement from Pegatron, one of the major players in Apple’s production chain, which assembles smartphones for the Cupertino company. According to him, the basic model of the new generation iPhone will be launched in 2027.

As part of its second-quarter 2026 earnings call, Pegatron confirmed that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be released next month, while the iPhone 18 is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2027 (i.e. January to March 2027). Previous rumors have also suggested that the basic iPhone 18 will be launched in March next year.
One of the reasons why Apple may delay the release of the iPhone 18 this year is the shortage of processors and memory chips, which has led to higher prices for smartphones in global markets. In addition, sources said difficulties have arisen in the semiconductor production process.
If Apple does delay the release of the iPhone 18, it would be a significant change in the new model release schedule, as the Cupertino tech giant has been releasing base iPhone models as well as Pro models from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 17 series.
According to the latest rumors, Apple will launch the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the first foldable iPhone at a launch event in September, which will reportedly be called iPhone Ultra. Then, in March 2027, iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 will be released.
