According to reports, the average price of a .com domain exceeded the record set in 2021, reaching $529,000 Escrow.com. Only the .ai zone can surpass this number – the average cost of a domain here reaches $535,000, a 260% increase in just three months. In the past quarter, the total transaction value of .ai domain names increased from 10 million US dollars to 37.7 million US dollars, and the newcomers were significantly inferior to the veterans: in the .com domain name area, the total transaction value during the same period was 86 million US dollars.

With a large number of companies focusing on artificial intelligence entering the market, the rise in popularity of the .ai domain is not surprising and predictable. Startups and small businesses that use them immediately make it clear what they are doing. But this option is not without risk: If the company decides to move away from AI technology, the equivalent .com domain may be taken away or very expensive.

Buyers of these domains should remember that the .ai domain extension is a geographical extension and belongs to the British Overseas Territory of Anguilla in the Caribbean. The coincidence transformed the economy of a region traditionally reliant on tourism. But reliance on local governments creates uncertainty for .ai domain owners—legislation could change, geopolitical instability could arise, or other political shifts could occur.
