Classic Returns: EA has released a detailed gameplay trailer for the latest version of the legendary map Wake Island in Battlefield 6. The new version relies on the integration of expanded destruction options, naval combat and new aircraft controls.
For veterans of the Battlefield series, the horseshoe-shaped Pacific island of Wake Island has been an absolutely iconic location since the series began. Now, EA is officially bringing the cult map back to Battlefield 6 as part of the current wave of content. In a newly released gameplay trailer, the developers gave the first dynamic look at the revamped map, which aims to bridge the gap between familiar settings and modern gameplay elements. Content expansion will begin on August 18, 2026.
While the map’s return has already been announced, a new trailer shows off actual gameplay on the newly designed island for the first time. Developers have radically revamped Battlefield 6’s Wake Island to take full advantage of the naval and marine combat mechanics introduced in Season 4.
In addition to battles for bunkers and shorelines, players can explore walk-in shipwrecks or take control of an aircraft carrier, which can be the centerpiece of many battles. Central to the redesign is expanded destruction options that dynamically change the battlefield during gameplay.
The map also provides the perfect playground for the refined aircraft controls that were introduced to the game as part of the accompanying Top Gun update.
The trailer highlights the often chaotic interactions of squadrons of infantry, land vehicles, patrol boats and jets from the air. Last year, Battlefield 6 became one of publisher EA’s strongest revenue drivers, and the release of Wake Island highlights continued support for new content. Starting August 18, the map offers players the opportunity to re-experience traditional Pacific locations with a modern look and fresh destruction mechanics.
