In early July, Microsoft announced that Xbox would begin rebooting. As part of this process, four studios separated from the games division, including Compulsion Games, which released the award-winning game Midnight South the previous year. The studio emphasized that it would retain its franchise when it announced the spin-off, and now the media has begun to focus on the change of publisher for the Spin Hazel adventure.
On Steam, Compulsion Games itself is now listed as the publisher of the South of Midnight game, whereas previously it was Xbox Game Studios. However, Xbox Team is still listed as the game publisher on the Microsoft Store. In the Playstation Store, it is Microsoft Corporation.
version IGN pointed out that the publisher change may mark the true completion of Compulsion Games’ separation from Xbox Game Studios. Back in July, the studio announced it was looking for partners, but has yet to announce future plans.
In addition to South of Midnight, Compulsion Games also retained the rights to games such as Contrast and We Happy Few following its separation from Microsoft. At this time, it’s unclear whether all of the listed items will remain part of the Game Pass subscription, but there has been no statement regarding their possible exclusion from the service.
