PAYDAY 2 Client More Than Triples In Size As Transition

The developers of cooperative first-person shooter PAYDAY 2 have released update 247, which will see the game switch to a newer version of the Diesel engine. The game now runs on a 64-bit version of the engine and uses DirectX 11. Processor load has also been improved, level loading is accelerated, and a new resource compression system has been introduced so the game should take up less disk space. Size reduced from over 100GB to 32GB,

Other changes include:

  • Full support for virtual reality, no separate executable required;
  • New content ownership system;
  • Voice chat for matching via Epic online services;
  • Updated localization archives.
  • Improved mouse performance;
  • Fully supports PlayStation 4 controller;
  • New player search filters (“Country”, “Region” and “Worldwide”);
  • More frame rate limiting options;
  • Fixed some bugs related to looting and network synchronization;
  • Improved weapon and loot balance;

As updates are released, the developer will also temporarily keep older versions of the game in the beta branch for a month. This will allow players experiencing severe issues to temporarily revert to a previous update.

In addition, support for the native version of PAYDAY 2 on Linux has also been discontinued. Users of this operating system will now need to run the game through Proton.
