The development team behind Emberveil, the World of Warcraft Unreal Azeroth client and vanilla server, has undergone a major reorganization to protect the project from legal persecution by copyright holders. The creators took into account the mistake of shutting down the Turtle WoW servers and completely rebuilt the financial and organizational model.
Instead of the usual bank acquirers, PayPal and other payment systems, the developers introduced the decentralized gateway BTCPay, which exclusively accepts transfers on Bitcoin and the Lightning Network. This step allows you to accept funds without disclosing personal data and eliminates the risk of immediate account freezing due to a court order.
In addition, the project completely dispenses with the registration of legal entities and business details, and communications with management are encrypted through Proton Mail. The customer’s executable code was written from scratch on Unreal Engine 5 without the use of original game files, depriving Blizzard’s attorneys of the opportunity to pursue claims under DMCA laws. The author has started a partner program to help other administrators of common servers.
