The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has received interesting news: Disney Studios seems to really want to bring Johnny Depp back. Series producer Jerry Bruckheimer officially confirmed to Deadline at the D23 event that talks are ongoing with the actor about the possibility of him returning to the role of the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow.
Let’s remember that the studio banned Depp from major projects following his public trial and scandal with ex-wife Amber Heard, which is why the actor publicly claimed to feel betrayed by the company. However, as screenwriter Christy Wilson-Cairns prepares to reboot the series under new management under Josh D’Amaro, it’s become clear to Disney bosses that making a full-fledged blockbuster without its main attraction is difficult.
Depp’s sweeping career renaissance is gaining momentum: This fall, the actor will appear in Paramount Pictures’ Tee West horror movie “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol,” and next year Lionsgate will team up with Penélope Cruz in the action thriller “Day Drinkers.” Now, the long-awaited return of Corsair can be added to that list.
