The development team behind massive MMORPG Ragnarok: A New World has released answers to the most pressing questions players have had following its failed launch on Steam. The creators discussed topics such as regional servers for the PC version, cross-platform progress, monetization, and technical optimization.
In particular, the author confirmed that currently only servers in Southeast Asia are running on Steam, which is why users in other regions may experience unstable ping and connections. The developers acknowledged the issue and promised to gradually expand the server’s geographic range, but a specific date has not yet been announced.
The Steam version is fully synchronized with mobile clients in the region, but does not support data transfer from servers in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Players from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau need to re-create their characters.
Third-party clients are used due to the need for a single account for cross-game progression and the built-in anti-cheat system. The team is exploring ways to streamline this process in the future.
The author has revamped the in-game economy: key consumables have been removed from the store (now available through gameplay), ways to obtain valuable items, cards, and gear for free have been added, and combat power indicators have been removed in favor of flexible builds.
The developers explained the existence of auto-battles and auto-paths, hoping to free players from the daily grind of completing difficult dungeons, boss raids, and PvP. At the same time, the rewards for open world exploration have also been greatly increased.
The author acknowledges that the current interface is a compromise between PC and mobile devices, and promises to gradually introduce improvements (including hotkeys and menu redesigns) without disrupting the cross-platform balance.
